Oh No she/he didn't say that!

Hey Breakout Family,

I hope all is well with you. I missed sharing it with yall. lol Yes, I said, Y'all be easy. Haha. Well, in the next few writings, we will explore things about Leadership. Today we will focus on healthy confrontation or let me soften my words (Healthy conversation).

At my job, my peers and I have to do constructive criticism and confront each other about things we have concerns about or unagreeable techniques that are used when counseling Patients. In the group, we had to tell each other how we perceived one another by our emotions to label one another. We looked at the following emotions: Anger, Sadness, Disgust, Hapyy, and Fear. These are core feelings that we have as individuals.

In the group this man gave me a higher percentage in Anger, he gave me a percentage of 70%. I said wow buddy, why because I knew I did not give that impression for the last year. I knew I did not come across like this to everyone because other people had my anger way lower than this individual did. It would be different if the other 7 people said the same thing. Now yes I have shown anger, of course. ( now remember we are looking at PERCEPTION we all perceive people differently due to our interpretations) As one perceives you, you make presumptions of others as well. {an idea that is taken to be true, and often used as the basis for other ideas, although it is not known for certain.

Now remember what I just shared, we had to share what we PERCEIVED about a person. {interpret or look on (someone or something) in a particular way; regard as}.

So I asked him (let's just give him the name Jack). I say, Jack why do you see me angry? he said I do not know. I said Jack take the time to think about why you see me this angry. Now, I already had my assumptions of why he felt this way about me. Was I bothered, by what he said YUP! lol This could be an Offense, and felt Offended.

Before I share the rest of the story let us talk about OFFENSE.

Listen, we all have been offended by one another in conversations. No one is exempt from offending anyone. The Bible shares that offenses will come.

Proverbs 19:11 “Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.”

James 1:19 “ Swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.”

Matthew 18:15-17 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.

Sometimes we are offended because of our thoughts, perspectives, insecurities, and past experiences. Also, some people will say things that are hurtful intentionally and unintentionally. So yes we all need to be mindful of what we say to one another and how our tone comes across when speaking to one another.

Yet, I still want to stress that we ALL, as individuals will offend one another. We all will perceive things wrong that were not intended to be offensive by the other party.

Remember the ENEMY job is to kill, steal, and Destroy. The enemy DOES NOT want us to be unified. He wants us to separate and isolate from one another. Do not let him win. Stay connected!

Many times the person who offended you did not know they offended you. Many times we are angry, annoyed, and get defensive.

-"It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable."

This definitely showed the various angles of perspective. Cultural differences can also cause one to have a false perception of another.
